Sports Premium Provision at Hillcroft Primary School

What is the PE and School Sports Funding?

The Education Funding Agency is providing additional funding to each school to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to all primary schools. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. Possible uses for the funding might include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers to improve their teaching of PE
  • Supporting and engaging the least active children
  • Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport
  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport
  • Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs

Funding for schools is calculated by reference to the number of primary-aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11), as recorded in the annual schools census.

‘Children who are physically active are more focused, better prepared to learn, and more emotionally and socially resilient. A successful physical education experience reverberates through his or her other classes, and contributes to a healthy school environment.’

Active for life – Raising physically literate kids

Here at Hillcroft, we provide stimulating and engaging opportunities for our children to flourish, whether that be through the curriculum and the delivery of PE lessons or through extra-curricular competitions and festivals that run throughout the year.

We understand the importance of physical activity and the benefits not only on a young person’s body and health, but also on their emotional and mental state.

Physical activity can help children in a variety of ways. It promotes:

  • Healthy growth and development
  • Better self-esteem
  • Reduced stress levels
  • Stronger bones, muscles and joints
  • Better posture and balance
  • A stronger heart
  • A healthier weight range
  • Social interaction with friends
  • Learning new skills while having fun
  • Better focus and concentration during school
  • Improved attainment

We are striving to ensure that standards of learning and achievement in PE and Sports are raised, with all children engaging in physical activity as part of the curriculum and extra-curricular provision.
