Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Hillcroft is working towards its Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, and embracing its eco code written by the School Council:

  • Waste can be recycled
  • All that landfill is no good
  • Save the planet by reusing and recycling
  • TODAY we can make a difference
  • EVERYONE can do their bit.

On Thursday 17th January, we were pleased to welcome Abigail Pedrick, from Pedricks Zero Waste Shop, who led an assembly about the importance of recycling and introduced the idea of making Ecobricks.

Ecobricks are one solution for plastic recycling. An Ecobrick is a reusable building block created by packing clean and dry used recycled plastic into a plastic bottle to a set density. The Ecobricks can then be used to build monular furniture, walls and even full scale buildings in some countries.

We are looking forward to welcoming Abigail back in the near future to lead an Ecobrick workshop. We hope to make enough Ecobricks to build planters to grow our vegetables. We will keep you updated and let you know when we start collecting plastic and bottles to recycle.
