Parade of poppies to remember

Our school fence is ablaze with colour as we mark the anniversary of the Armistice together.

Paper templates were sent out to our parents and community members around the school to colour and decorate ahead of today’s act of remembrance.

We have put the wonderful results on display on our fence so the local community and everyone who took part can also see the wonderful display the poppies have made.

In keeping with this year’s pandemic, among the brightly-coloured poppies were tributes to the NHS with the Staying Home Saving Lives slogan and rainbow colours were used to thank frontline health staff.

Another of the poppies had a drawn image of a Spitfire flying across the petals and another had photographs of family members.

The poppies on our fence look lovely and we are very grateful to everyone who took the time to take part. It was wonderful to see all the different versions returning to school and some of them are clearly very personal.

This year we have been unable to take part in a community act of Remembrance but as a school we felt it was important to mark the Armistice in a way that could still be community-led.

Pupils have also been spending time learning about the significance of the Armistice and listened to a recording of The Last Post.
